Q3 Board of Directors Meeting —The Neuromatch Board of Directors met at the start of October for a productive quarterly meeting. The Board approved the establishment of a Strategic Advisory Board to help guide Neuromatch’s next phase of growth, ratified our Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement with the Champalimaud Foundation (see September update for more details), and discussed organisational strategic priorities, which will be shared in more detail during our January 2026 Town Hall (see below).
This meeting also marked the final BoD meeting for Chris Rozell, whose term has concluded. Chris, one of Neuromatch’s co-founders, has been instrumental in shaping the organization since its inception. We are incredibly thankful for his leadership, thoughtful guidance, and generosity over the years. We wish Chris every success in his new role as Executive Director of the Institute for Neuroscience, Neurotechnology & Society (INNS) at Georgia Tech, and are delighted that he will continue to stay connected with the Neuromatch community.
Sunsetting the Computational Tools for Climate Science Course — We recently announced on Slack that Neuromatch and Climatematch leadership have made the difficult decision that 2026 will be the final year Neuromatch hosts the Computational Tools for Climate Science course. Since 2023, this collaboration has trained more than 700 learners globally and become one of our highest-rated programs for student satisfaction. We’re fully committed to making the 2026 course the strongest and most impactful yet, and to supporting Climatematch leadership in transitioning the program to a new long-term home, e.g. MIT OpenCourseWare, so its materials can continue to reach learners worldwide. This course has been shaped by an extraordinary community of volunteers, and I want to thank everyone who has been part of it. If you’d like to discuss the decision or ideas for next steps, please join the conversation in #climate-future-discussion on Slack or contact me directly—I’m very happy to meet and talk further.
Neuromatch Town Hall Meeting — Join us on 14 January 2026 for our first Neuromatch Town Hall, where we’ll share our refined strategic priorities, brand refresh, vision for the future, highlight upcoming initiatives, and set the stage for our 2026 Academy! This event is open to everyone in our community; come connect, ask questions, and help shape the year ahead. Please register via the zoom link above.
Join us at Society for Neuroscience 2025 — If you’re attending the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting (Nov 15–19, San Diego, USA), we’d love to see you there! Come visit us at booth #3704 to meet the team and connect with fellow community members. We’ll also be hosting a Neuromatch social on Monday afternoon/early evening (location and timing TBD). Please fill out this form to let us know if you’ll be attending so we can share details once confirmed.
Website and Brand Refresh — The team is currently working on an updated Neuromatch website and a light brand refresh to better reflect us as an organisation. The new site will make it easier to understand Neuromach' mission and impact, explore our programs, get involved, and stay connected. We look forward to sharing a preview and more details during the January 2026 Town Hall.
Academy Updates
Update to Academy COLA Coefficients — We have not updated our cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) coefficients, which determine student tuition and TA payments, since 2021. Following a review, a proposal has been developed to update the coefficients using the latest World Bank GDP per capita (2024) data, normalised on the average for High-Income Countries rather than the U.S. baseline previously used. This will ensure more accurate and equitable regional adjustments going forward.
Communications & Outreach Volunteer Roles Open — We’re recruiting a Department Chair (4–5 hrs/week) to help shape Neuromatch and Climatematch’s voice globally, and a Google Ads Consultant (1–2 hrs/week) to optimize our Google Ad Grant. Additional Course Academy Chair roles will open in early November.
Academy Info Sessions — We launched registration for our Academy Info Sessions which will run in January, a fantastic opportunity for prospective students to learn more about our courses and ask questions. We’d love for alumni, teaching assistants, content creators, and other volunteers to join as well, to share their experiences and showcase the rich, supportive, and truly global community that makes Neuromatch unique.
MEXA Research Accelerator
As part of our 4-month MEXA Research Accelerator with Wellcome supporting 40 international teams in strengthening proposals for an upcoming generative AI in mental health research funding call, we hosted our final online workshop in October:
Workshop 4: Approaching Ethical issues in Mental Health x AI Research — An online workshop for participants to think about ethical implications of their research and how to address them.
Financial Snapshot
Financial Runway — As of 30 September 2025, Neuromatch Inc. had $820,244 in the bank. Our current financial projections indicate that, without accounting for any pending or future fundraising, Neuromatch will exhaust available and committed funds in March 2027. This represents a conservative financial runway of ~16 months.
2024 IRS Form 990 Filed — We’ve finalised our 2024 IRS Form 990, Neuromatch’s annual public financial filing required for all U.S. nonprofits. It provides a transparent overview of our finances, governance, and activities for 2024.
2026 Partnerships — We’re working to renew partnerships with Meta, Google DeepMind, and Janelia, all of whom have generously supported us in previous years. We’ll also be reaching out to new potential partners, including Hugging Face and other for-profit organizations—please share any suggestions or contacts who might be interested in supporting Neuromatch’s mission.
Simons Foundation Renewal — Bradley met with Allison Simmons at the Gatsby Charitable Foundation to discuss renewing our grant (currently $50k/year, ending March 2026). Gatsby is keen to support our Impact Scholars Program and potentially a new Predoctoral Bridging Fellowship. They requested a 2–3 page outline highlighting our impact to date, vision for the fellowship, and a high-level budget (~$300k/year for Impact Scholars, or ~$1M/year including the fellowship). We’ll keep the community updated as this progresses.
