Research Support Funds

Research Support Funds

Each project is eligible to receive up to $8,000 in research support to help scholars and mentors carry out the work. Our goal is to keep these awards flexible and useful for different types of projects.Rather than a fixed allocation, each scholar–mentor pair will jointly define how the budget should be used, using a budget template provided for this purpose. Once completed, the budget will be reviewed and approved by Neuromatch.

Eligible Uses of Funds

The award may be used for:
  • Compensation (salary support, honoraria, stipends)
  • Compute resources
  • Software or platform subscriptions
  • Model development costs
  • Travel for conferences
  • Other reasonable research expenses related to the project
Note: Equipment purchases (including laptops, desktops, tablets, or other hardware) are not eligible expenses under this award.

Funding Allocation

  • Up to $5,000 for stipends
  • Up to $3,000 for project costs

Payment and Budget Flexibility

  • Expenses will be invoiced to Neuromatch in two instalments:
  • Midpoint of the program (September, TBD exact date)
  • End of the program (December, TBD exact date)
  • Stipends will be paid in two equal instalments: $2,500 at the midpoint and $2,500 at the end. The stipend amount is fixed and cannot be revised.
  • Project costs may be revised at the midpoint if needed, allowing teams to adapt funding to their project’s evolving needs.

Invoicing

  • Teams should submit invoices only after expenses have been incurred.
  • Each invoice must include all receipts or proof of payment for the reported expenses.
  • Invoices should be submitted using a standard invoice template, provided to ensure consistency.
This structure allows each team to adapt the funding to their project’s needs while keeping administration simple.
