Theory of Change

Theory of Change

What is a Theory of Change?

A Theory of Change describes how your research is expected to contribute to meaningful real-world impact. It helps articulate the pathway from research activities to outputs, outcomes, and ultimately clinical, societal or policy benefit.
Within this programme, Theory of Change provides a shared framework for impact planning, supports project reflection throughout the award, and contributes to programme-level evaluation.

Why are we doing this?

The Theory of Change process aims to help teams:
  • Clarify intended beneficiaries and users
  • Identify assumptions and implementation challenges
  • Consider translation pathways early
  • Track progress over time
  • Communicate impact more clearly

What to expect

Each team will participate in:
  • An initial Theory of Change workshop (Summer/Autumn 2026)
  • Mid-point review (2027)
  • Final review (2028)
Each session is collaborative and tailored to your project.
