August has been a busy month, with the wrap-up of our 2025 Academies and the launch of the MEXA Research Accelerator. You'll find key highlights below, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like more information or to get involved.
Academy
We successfully wrapped the 2025 Neuromatch and Climatematch Academies, supporting 1,592 students across 96 countries. Data analysis is underway, and we will soon convene the wider community to review findings and discuss broader impact reporting.
2026 Academy Dates: Mark your calendars! From July 6-24, 2026 we'll offer Computational Neuroscience and Deep Learning courses and from July 13-24, 2026 we'll be running the Computational Tools for Climate Science and NeuroAI courses.
Project Mentors: We had 131 Project Mentors this year. This is a program we have not spent much time evaluating or improving in the past. Courtney and Konstantine have put together many suggested updates in Project Mentor Updates + Portal Development . Add your comments and thoughts! You can see the results from Project Mentor Survey Analysis. [Join #a-26-project-mentors in Slack].
Volunteer Engagement, Recognition and Support: Strengthening how we engage, support, and grow our global volunteer community is a top priority. Please share your input through this survey — results will feed into a new working group and a community town hall to shape improvements. More on this soon, with opportunities to participate as the work progresses.
Semester-Long Computational Neuroscience Course Pilot: In early discussions with St. Mary’s College of Maryland, DePaul University, and Georgia Tech on piloting the course for local credit. Conversations are focused on feasibility and potential contract terms with Neuromatch, and most parties are expressing strong interest.
Impact Scholars Program
Applications for the 2025-26 Impact Scholars Program close on the 2 September, this year we anticipate supporting ~20 teams.
We have onboarded 40 new volunteers to help support the application review process and the wider program.
MEXA Research Accelerator
We launched the MEXA Research Accelerator, a 4-month program in partnership with Wellcome, supporting 40 international teams to explore the potential of generative AI in mental health research. We’re providing training and resources (including $1.2M in pilot funding) to help teams strengthen their proposals for an upcoming £3m Wellcome funding call, exclusive to accelerator teams.
In August, we held a Kick-off Meeting (140 participants) and delivered a Pilot Studies Workshop (130 participants), focusing on designing pilot experiments and prioritizing data.
Marketing & Communications
New Neuromatch Newsletter: We'll be launching our new quarterly newsletter this week for regular communication with our wider community of alumni and other stakeholders. We’ve been growing our mailing list through increased social media activity and targeted pushes.
Advocate and Ambassador Program: We've launched our new Advocate and Ambassador Program! Applications are officially open, and onboarding will begin in September. Join the conversation and help out in #a-25-ambassadors and learn more here.
Financial Runway: As of 31 July 2025, Neuromatch Inc. had $715,560.60 in the bank (prior to processing approximately $150,000 in Teaching Assistant payments for the 2025 Academies). Our current financial projections indicate that, without accounting for any pending or future fundraising, Neuromatch will exhaust available and committed funds in January 2027 . This represents a conservative financial runway of ~16 months.
Financial Audit: I’m pleased to share that Neuromatch Inc. officially completed its first financial audit (covering FY 2024) which concluded in a clean (unmodified) opinion, meaning no material misstatements were identified in our financial statements. This is an important milestone for Neuromatch, demonstrating responsible financial stewardship, organizational maturity, and positioning Neuromatch to pursue and manage major future grant funding opportunities.
2025 Academy Tuition Fee Adjustments: We introduced a nonrefundable processing fee and revised tuition payment process. Despite total enrolment being 75% of 2024 levels, these changes led to a 66% increase in tuition-based revenue, creating a more sustainable financial model.
